Photography was always a part of my life. Even as a child, I was constantly taking pictures and had many scrapbooks. As far back as I can remember, I also had a great passion for horses.
Originally from Binghamton, NY, I worked for many years as an accountant for IBM Corporation. In 1995, I moved to Connecticut, where I began spending much of my free time with horses. Eventually I owned my first horse, which was a dream come true. When my career with IBM ended in 2002, I ventured onto a different career path – one that was more creative - as I began designing websites for stables and barns in my local area.
In 2003, I began taking photos of my friends at a barn in LaGrangeville, NY, as they practiced for upcoming horse shows. Eventually I was asked to photograph my first hunter pace. A self-taught photographer, I was initially apprehensive. But I studied, researched and practiced as much as possible to improve my skills. It’s still an ongoing process today, as there is always something new to learn. Since then, I've been photographing local horse shows and events in Connecticut and New York. One of the highlights of my career occurred in 2006 when I had the opportunity to photograph Olympic medal riders at the United Stated Equestrian Association horse trials in Ocala, FL. More recently I’ve begun to move away from photographing horse shows and focus more on farm calls, where I can concentrate on the animal itself and the bond between human and horse.
Horses, in my eyes, are spiritual and are the most magnificent animals on earth. I love being around them and being around "horse people." I feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to combine my love of horses and photography in a meaningful way which I can share with others.
